Thursday Garden Stroll

Hello friends! Here I am, Busby, looking out onto our garden from Mom's lap. BIG news from the garden this week! Are you ready????

SUNFLOWERZILLA HAS BLOOMED!!!!!!

Here is the bloom on the first day it opened...

And here is the bloom today. The bees are having a field day with all the pollen.
So far the gopher hasn't been able to munch on Sunflowerzilla.

Our Bachelor Buttons finally opened yesterday. We were holding our breath, because the gopher has been eating plants all around them. Maybe the Bachelor Buttons don't taste good?

Our Cosmos are thriving!

We'll finish this week with one of the surviving Mystery Plants!
It bloomed yesterday. We have NO idea what it is.
We couldn't get a better photo because it is behind a lot of other plants.
Mom thinks it might be related to the Geranium. Any ideas?

Happy gardening friends! Don't forget to visit all the other gardening cats today!
Mom will miss the garden while she is travelling next week, but we will
keep an eye on it. Our friend Lorraine will come by to water and to keep the birdbath filled.
Have a great Thursday, xoxo, Busby

  13. Here's a little more uses for this EDIBLE plant...

    Culinary Uses

    *

Borage flowers and leaves are the traditional decoration for gin-based summer cocktails, and may be set in ice cubes to garnish other drinks.
    *

The flowers and young leaves may be used to garnish salads. dips, and cucumber soups.
    *

Candied borage flowers make attractive cake decorations.
    *

Chopped leaves can be added to soups and stews during the last few minutes of cooking.
    *

The leaves can be cooked with cabbage leaves (two parts cabbage, one part borage.)
    *

Borage does not dry well for culinary use.

    Medicinal Use

    *

Because it is a tonic plant for the adrenal glands, borage provides an invaluable support for a stressful lifestyle.
    *

Borage is rich in minerals, especially potassium.
    *

A tea made with borage helps to reduce fevers and ease chest colds.
    *

An infusion of borage acts as a galactogogue, promoting the production of milk in breastfeeding mothers.

    Other Uses

    *

Borage makes an excellent facial steam for improving very dry, sensitive skin.
    *

The flowers may be dried to add color to potpourri.

  20. That sunflower is impressive! My human grew one once and was really looking forward to having her own homegrown sunflower seeds... but worms (or something wormy-like) got into them. If your human knows of a way to keep that from happening, let us know!

  21. Concats to the Kook Kitty Krew! Guess what, in investigating we found it growing in our very own front yard garden!!! We didn't know what it was and now we know it's borage!

  22. Truely a lovely garden and an almost scary 'Zilla' plant, too! The blogosphere is a wonderful place to solve mysteries, isn't it!
