Dia De Los Muertos

Hello friends! Today is La Dia De Los Muertos, which is Spanish for the Day of the Dead. It's basically a day to remember family and other loved ones who have passed away. We have been celebrating it at our house for many years. My Mom used to live in the Mission district of San Francisco, and that is where she first grew to appreciate this wonderful holiday. We have an alter in our home that contains photos and mementos of our loved ones. We decorate it with candy skulls and marigolds during this holiday.
On top of our alter are the ashes of Toot & Alex, our two older sister and brother cats. Plus we have their photographs and that cool tile of skeleton cats.
Inside our alter are photos of our loved ones and mementos from their lives.
Here's Walter Peyton. He was a football player who my Mom was a big fan of.
We have famous people and family members and little bits and pieces of things that remind us of their lives.
Next to our alter is this wonderful quilt square our Grandmother made of Toot and Alex. Can you see the two cats?
We hope you take a moment today to celebrate your family and loved ones who have gone before. We are especially remembering Yuu Chan, Sniffie, Perry and Skeeter today.

xoxo, Busby

  1. Aw, now you've gone and made my human think of the kitty who came before me - that always makes her sad!

  2. Busby, For me it's a good thing to remembering our love ones and our family. It might make you sad but the good memory made you smile, thinking of the old day. Remind ourself how lucky we are to have them to know them to have some time with them.

    Thank you for this post

  15. That cabinet is the bOmB! I love the mementoes & the quilt is quite adorable! I noticed it in the longshot at first and didn't see the cats until you showed the shot by itself. Wonderful!
