Emergency Vet!

Hi friends! Well, I had to make a trip to the Emergency Vet yesterday afternoon. My Non-blog Mom (who was luckily off work for the Martin Luther King holiday) noticed I was visiting the cat box a lot but not peeing.

My pee results from Saturday had come back (our regular vet called earlier in the day) and my alkaline was high, 8.5. She said I need to go on prescription food. No UTI was apparent in the lab results. Mom brought those with her to the ER Vet. They took my temp (normal) and took some blood. They gave me some sub Q fluids so my Mom's could see if I was peeing okay tonight. They gave me an anti-spasmodic to help my bladder feel better.

They offered to keep me overnight (NO THANKS!) but they noticed I was pretty nervous and figured I would be better off at home.

I have been on a homemade raw food diet for seven years now (from Dr Pitcairn's book) and my Moms are not very excited about feeding me canned food. They don't really trust the manufacturers. They plan to have Busby's pee tested to see if he has high alkaline too. His was normal when it was tested in 2010.

So my blood work should be available tomorrow and I will keep you all posted. In the meantime, if you can spare some purrs I would appreciate it.

xoxo, Raymond

  5. Deja vu, Ray !!!! It happened to me !!! My alkaline was high 8, the doctor said should be around 6.5 !
The doctor told me, In general, it's happen with Mancat. We are not drink much of water like Ladycat and I'm not sure you are fuzzy eating or not , but I was. I only ate dry food ! when it came to High Alkaline. It made us don't drink ! and when we don't drink, we don't do pee !!! My doctor fixed me with one injection and I have to eat special food for my urine for the rest of my life to keep my Ph level normal.

I don't want to give you a fright but I don't know the result. Make sure your mom keep an eyes to your pee, it can be fetal !! You know when my mom rang the nurse at work to book me after work , the nurse said to my mom " Bring him now, he might can't make till 5 pm. " so be alert ! Buddy !

I send a ton of purrs to you and paws crossed, I hope nothing serious
    Many hugs from me

PS : Mom put the link here for you, Just in case your mom wanna read. and many comments keep my mom alert. we have lots of good friends ! ( Look at the date 14-15 )

  8. Lots of purrs from us! Our mom wouldn't want to feed that vet prescription canned food cr*p, either, because it's full of grains. (Do the words "obligate carnivore" not mean anything to vets?)

What about a change in raw food recipe? There must be some reason this is happening...is it the protein? What if you change the protein?

    Paws crossed, Raymond!

  10. Ray, our purr motors are going strong for you. Maybe your mom can adjust the recipe of your raw food to make it more helpful to your pee.
