LIVESTRONG TOGETHER!

Hello friends! It's Livestrong Day today! We're YELLOW in support of this special day. Like most of you, cancer has touched our lives. We want to tell you about some of our friends and loved ones who have battled this disease.

Joseph A Festa is our blog Mom's Dad. He died of Prostate cancer in 1979 when he was just 54 years old. He was a great Father and our Mom and her family miss him everyday.

The photo above is our friend Jean Hansen. Our Mom met her through their mutual love of golf. They became friends and played a lot of golf together. Jean was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer in April 2009 and passed away in March 2010. Jean put up a valiant fight against the disease. We think of her everyday and we like to remember her as you see her in this photo, out on the golf course, having fun.

The names we honor on our cancer survivor list are three women who are very dear to us.

Collette and Carole Festa are two of our Mom's sister-in-laws. They are truly more like real sisters to her.
Both Collette and Carole are long-term breast cancer survivors, and we are thankful for each day they are in our lives.

The lady in the photo below is Genevieve Fillmore. She is like a second Mother to our two Moms. Mom met Gen through golf. In fact, Gen golfed everyday (and WALKED the golf course) until she was 88 years old. That was the year Gen was diagnosed with terminal Peritoneal cancer.

Gen's doctor told her to get her affairs in order and to go into hospice care. However, Gen went to an Oncologist who started her on chemotherapy. That was three years ago, and at age 91 Gen is still going strong! She has an incredible spirit and continues to live life to the fullest. She is still undergoing chemo three times a month, and she is still smiling through it!

Thank you to Milo and Alfie and to the Zoolatry gang for getting all the bloggers together for this Livestrong blog day!  Big purrs to the Cat Blogosphere Blog too!

We also want to mention that there is a group of cat bloggers who are walking the Komen 3-Day for a Cure this weekend in San Francisco. They are walking 60 MILES in three days! Jeter Harris's Mom, Diva Kitty's Mom, Psycho Kitty Speaks Mom, and Skeezix the Cat's FL, to name a few. Guido the Italian Kitty's Mom is crewing for their team. These ladies raised over $17,500 to fight breast cancer! Woo Hoo!

Courage! Hope! Livestrong friends!
xoxo, Raymond and Busby

  14. This is a wonderful post, boys, and you look very mellow yellow. We are so sorry for your family's losses, and say hurrah to the survivors. Especially Gen sounds amazing.

    Livestrong!

And the women who are walking in the 3-day walk are nothing short of amazing. We made a donation towards the FL's fundraising, and so we hope they are not getting too bad a batch of blisters.

  20. What a lovely post. I will pray that your gran continues to fight this terrible disease. And I am so sorry to hear of your loved ones that didn't win against the cancer. Together we all show our support in making cancer awareness today. Too many lives have been lost. Hopefully some day cancer will be something of the past never to worry about again.
