Wordy Wednesday

Hi friends! This is the blog-Mom typing. What is going on with Raymond? Our Vet called last night. She ran several tests on his blood and consulted with another Vet. It seems that Ray maybe showing signs of kidney disease. He may also be hyperthyroid. We are going to start treating the hyperthyroid to see if that improves his kidney numbers. Ray is only seven years old, so the Vet is a bit alarmed that he is showing signs of kidney disease this young.

More than one Vet (our own and the Vet at the ER) say that Ray has very small kidneys. His kidneys don't seem to be functioning the way that they should. He will start on a hyperthyroid drug tomorrow and then on Feb 17 he will have some follow up blood work. He has lost a bit of weight, but we aren't sure if that is due to his diet change (Royal Canin canned SO) or what.

There has been talk of an ultrasound, but currently that is on hold until the next round of blood work.

Meanwhile, his energy level has been less than normal (he is usually VERY energetic) and he continues to pee inappropriately unless we are home to re-direct him. We have resigned ourselves to plastic covered furniture for the time being.

Thanks for all the purrs and words of support. He is our Raymond, and we will continue to try to find a way to make him feel better again.

xoxo, Raymond and Busby's Blog-Mom

  1. We hope Ray feels better soon! Did they run a T4 and T4ED test? What were the results? If he is hyperthyroid, that can make the kidneys act like they are working ok and when the hypterthyroidism is treated, they can get worse cuz being hyper T make the blood pressure go up and fool the kidneys that they are ok. Here's a link to info on that:

  2. We are purrin so hard fur Raymond! Our Princess went through a bad time for probably a year when she was about that age. I say this not to alarm you, but to let you know sometimes things take a long time to straighten out. We wish you guys the best and understand this is very taxing and upsetting to the whole family. Keep us posted, please. xoxo

  17. We are purring hard for little Raymond! Our mom can empathize with the piddling: Smidgen is having accidents probably related to her CRF (and she is only 8). We hope the vet doctors will find a solution so Ray will get better.

  18. We are purring hard for the Ray man and his family. Hyper-T treatment will reveal the real condition of his kidneys, but is the right thing to do. My woman's (angel) Venus started with kidney stones at 7. SHe lived well for a number of years with treatment. If no one has suggested it, this CRF site has effurry thing you never wanted to know about kidney disease and also discusses the interaction with Hyper-T.
