Oh hello friends! Instead of doing a Thursday garden stroll today, we thought we would stroll you a bit around our town. We live in a small town with a population of about 10,000 humans. (about 20,000 during the Summer months) It's on the central coast of California and it's called Capitola-by-the-Sea.
Many of you all ready know, we live in a small house. It's only 900 square feet, but we love it. As you can see, we have a big front porch that faces South, so we get a lot of sun. Our Moms had our house painted green and pink, they think those are nice "beach-y" colors! (this photo is about three years old)
Capitola is a popular surf spot. It's just three miles south of Santa Cruz, CA which is "Surf City, USA"! This is the surf break at Capitola Beach, about five blocks from our house.
It's a tourist town, so it's busy in the Summer. Now that Labor Day has come and gone, the tourists have gone back home and beach is ours again! Capitola actually faces south on The Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary, which is the largest marine sanctuary in the country.
Here is a view of the old Capitola Wharf with the Venetian Motel in the foreground. The Santa Cruz Mountains around Capitola used to be used for logging and the lumber would be shipped out of Capitola to build homes in San Francisco and other big cities.
Here's another view of the wharf from the cliffs above Capitola.
Here are some cool flowers that grow up on the cliffs. We don't know what they are called, but the hummingbirds love them!
We think we may have discovered the legendary TUNA TREE! This is in a garden a few blocks from our house. We wonder if we can get some seeds from these people?!
We hope you enjoyed this stroll around Capitola, CA. We love our little town. Have a terrific Thursday friends! xoxo, Busby and Raymond
